## A club born of charity Celtic were founded on 6 November 1887 in the hall of St Mary's church, in the Calton district of Glasgow's East End. The driving force was Brother Walfrid, an Irish Marist brother who wanted to raise money to feed the poor children of the area. Since 1892

Celtic Park, in the Parkhead district of Glasgow's East End, has been Celtic's home since 1892, when the club left its first ground, located across the street. The fans call it “Paradise”. Between 1994 and 1998 it was almost completely rebuilt as an all-seater stadium, and today it is the largest football stadium in Scotland, with more than 60,000 seats. Its attendance record is an Old Firm match against Rangers on 1 January 1938. As well as Celtic, it hosts Scotland national team matches and cup finals.

The fans

Celtic's supporters fill Celtic Park, which they call “Paradise”, and are known for their colourful stands and their songs. Their great rivals are Rangers, with whom they contest the Old Firm, the Glasgow derby, one of the most famous matches in the world. At the 2003 UEFA Cup final, around 80,000 fans travelled to Seville and FIFA rewarded their good behaviour. In 2017 they won FIFA's The Best Fan Award for a mosaic that covered the whole stadium in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions.
