Celtic's first shirt, worn in the club's inaugural season: white, with a green collar and, on the chest, the club's first emblem, a green Celtic cross on a red oval. As early as February 1889 the team played in green and white vertical stripes. In its first Scottish Cup the club reached the final and lost it to Third Lanark, in a match that was replayed on the orders of the football association.
