High confidence

Based on several clear photos.

This is Borussia Dortmund's current crest: a yellow circle with a black border, with the letters “BVB” and, below them, “09”, the year the club was founded, in black. This version has been in use since 1993, when it replaced the crest of 1974-1976 and 1978-1993. The basic design goes back to the first crest, from 1945, and was only interrupted between 1976 and 1978, when it featured a lion's head because of the sponsor Samson.

What changed
Compared with the crest used until 1993, the current one dropped the two extra black rings around the “BVB 09” lettering and lightened the yellow, which used to be slightly darker. In November 2025 a club member proposed returning to a modernised version of that old crest, still used on special and cup shirts, but the vote at the general meeting was postponed because of technical problems.
