The stadium on Grünwalder Straße, in the Giesing district, opened in 1911 as the home of TSV 1860. Bayern played its home games there from 1925 to 1972, except for the years when the 1943 bombing raids put it out of use; its record attendance was 52,000 for a match against Nuremberg in 1961. It was the club's home in the early years of Beckenbauer, Maier and Müller and in 1968-69, the season of its first Bundesliga title. Today it holds around 15,000 spectators and is used by TSV 1860 and Bayern's reserve team.
