This is the 1949 home design, white with a shirt collar, which England wore with short sleeves at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. Its crest, created in 1949, no longer had a crown and added ten Tudor roses between the lions. England arrived at the tournament weeks after losing 7-1 to Hungary in Budapest; it drew 4-4 with Belgium, beat Switzerland 2-0 and fell 4-2 to Uruguay in the quarter-finals.
