It was built between 1915 and 1916 under the name Ullervi, on a site that had previously held a velodrome and where Sweden played its first international match in 1908. IFK shared it with GAIS and Örgryte, and its attendance record was around 32,000 spectators, for an Örgryte v Elfsborg match in 1957. After Nya Ullevi opened in 1958 the clubs moved out, returned in 1992, and the stadium was demolished in 2007 to make way for the current one.
