It was built on the same site as the old Gamla Ullevi of 1916, demolished in 2007, and kept its name as a reminder of that history. It opened on April 5, 2009 with a derby between GAIS and Örgryte, and the three clubs of the Gothenburg alliance play their home games there: IFK, GAIS and Örgryte. Its attendance record is 18,276 spectators, for IFK Göteborg v Djurgården on April 11, 2009, and it is also the home of the Sweden women's national team.
