Club history
Atalanta is the football club of Bergamo, founded on October 17, 1907 by a group of students who named it after the huntress of Greek mythology. It has worn blue and black since 1920, the year of its merger with Bergamasca, and its two major titles are the 1963 Coppa Italia and the 2024 Europa League. It plays at the stadium on Viale Giulio Cesare, opened in 1928 and owned by the club since 2017.

Atalanta was born in Bergamo on October 17, 1907, when five secondary-school students with a passion for the classics founded a sports club and named it Atalanta, after the huntress and runner of Greek mythology. In its early years the team wore black and white, and only in 1914 did it gain recognition from the Italian federation.

Bergamo's stadium was built in 1928 on the site of a former racecourse in Borgo Santa Caterina, with room for 12,000 spectators, and it has been Atalanta's home ever since. The club bought it from the city council in 2017 and between 2019 and 2024 rebuilt both of its curve stands in stages and modernised the main stands, preserving historic façades. Today it holds 23,439 people, its Curva Nord is dedicated to Federico Pisani and the Sud to Piermario Morosini, and since September 2025 it has carried the name New Balance Arena.
The fans
Atalanta's supporters identify with the club's nickname, la Dea, meaning the Goddess. The core of the fan base gathers in the stadium's Curva Nord, dedicated to Federico Pisani, while the Curva Sud is dedicated to Piermario Morosini. Their fiercest rivalry is with neighbours Brescia, and they also have a marked enmity with Roma. Among the few friendships the fans maintain are those with the supporters of Eintracht Frankfurt and Ternana.
