Gold away shirt made by Asics, the one Sunderland wore in the 1998 play-off final at Wembley because Charlton chose their red and white shirt. The team had finished third in the First Division, then the second tier, with 90 points. That final ended 4-4 and Charlton won 7-6 on penalties; in the cups, Sunderland reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and the third round of the League Cup.
