Le Coq Sportif home shirt that broke with tradition: a white base with thin red pinstripes, paired with red shorts and no sponsor. It was very unpopular and the club replaced it in 1983. In 1982-83 Sunderland finished 16th in the First Division and went out in the third round of both the FA Cup and the League Cup.
