## Foundation and colours Boca Juniors was born on 3 April 1905 in La Boca, the port neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It was founded by Esteban Baglietto, Alfredo Scarpatti, Santiago Sana and the brothers Juan Antonio and Teodoro Farenga, young sons of Italian immigrants, most of them from Genoa; that is why the club is called «xeneize». The meeting began at Baglietto's house and ended on a bench in Plaza Solís, where they chose a name with an English ring to it, very much in fashion at the time. Baglietto was the first president, and on 21 April the team won its first match 4-0 against Mariano…
The fans
Its supporters call themselves «xeneizes» (Genoese), in memory of the club's Genoese founders, and proudly claim to be «la mitad más uno» (half plus one) of the country. The tradition of the «jugador número 12» (12th player) dates back to 1925 and Victoriano Caffarena, the fan who travelled with the team on its European tour, and it gave rise to the name «La Doce». Rivals call them «bosteros», a nickname the fans ended up embracing with pride. Its great derby is the Superclásico against River Plate, first played officially in 1913; it also has derbies with Independiente, Racing and San Lorenzo, the other big clubs of Argentine football.
