## A club born from two neighbourhood teams Argentinos Juniors was founded on 15 August 1904, the day after a match between Mártires de Chicago and Sol de la Victoria: the winners invited the losers to form a single club. The fans
Its supporters identify with the team's nickname, «el Bicho», and with pride in an academy that the club sums up in the motto «Semillero del Mundo» (the World's Seedbed). Maradona sits at the heart of its identity: the club presents itself as «Tierra de D10S» (Land of God) and calls its stadium «Cuna de D10S» (Cradle of God), because Diego made his debut there in 1976. Its derby is against Platense, from the neighbouring district of Saavedra: the rivalry grew in the 1970s and 1980s through relegation battles and the clash in the 1980 Nacional, and today it is played on the league's derby matchday. Platense holds a slight edge in the head-to-head record.
