The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, known worldwide as San Siro, has been Milan's home since it opened on 19 September 1926. It was the idea of rossoneri president Piero Pirelli and was built in 13 months next to the racecourse; in 1935 the city bought it, and Inter have played there since 1947. It grew with the second tier in 1955 and with the third tier and the roof built for the 1990 World Cup, and since 1980 it has borne the name of Giuseppe Meazza. It has hosted European Cup and Champions League finals and, on 6 February 2026, the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. In November 2025 Milan and Inter bought the stadium, which will be replaced by a new neighbouring stadium scheduled for 2031.
The fans
Milan's organised support gathers in San Siro's Curva Sud, where in 1968 the Fossa dei Leoni was born, one of the first ultras groups in Italy, which disbanded in 2005; today the main group is the Brigate Rossonere. The club's great rival is Inter, born in 1908 from a split within Milan itself: the two clubs contest the Derby della Madonnina and share a stadium. Milan also has a historic rivalry with Juventus, with whom it fought for titles in the fifties, seventies and nineties, and whom it beat in the 2003 Champions League final.
